Every year I like to give some homemade gifts because:
1. They are heartfelt
2. They are affordable
3. They are FUN to make
4. The kids get to help and they feel engaged in the gift-giving process

Here are recipes for two easy and fun gifts to give.

Peppermint hot cocoa and Poo-Pouri

Peppermint Vitality Hot Cocoa Mix

Ingredients

~2/3 jar powdered sugar (I say approximate because it’s okay to eyeball the volume)
~1/3 cup cocoa powder (I say approximate because it’s okay to eyeball the volume)
2 Tbsp chocolate chips
8 oz canning jar
1 Drop of Peppermint Vitality essential oil – NOT MORE! The peppermint flavor is very prominent so start with fewer to begin.
Optional: labels. I used Avery #22808 which are 2.5″ circles. Here is a pdf with the design for you to download. You can also print these on regular paper and cut them out; use tape to attach them to lids or jars.

Directions

  1. Fill the jar half way with powdered sugar
  2. Add 2 Tbsp chocolate chips
  3. Add 2-4 drops of Peppermint Vitality essential oil
  4. Fill the remainder of the jar with cocoa powder.
  5. Cover and shake
  6. Add labels if using

*Note: if you like it more sweet, add more powdered sugar and less cocoa powder. If you like it less sweet and a little more bitter, add more cocoa powder or chocolate chips and less powdered sugar.

**Note: If you accidentally added too much Peppermint Vitality essential oil to your batch, just make another batch of hot cocoa mix WITHOUT the peppermint and mix the two together.

Poo-Pouri Spray

Ingredients

1 tsp castile soap (I used Dr. Bronner’s peppermint castile soap)
2 tsp rubbing alcohol
1 cup filtered or distilled water
5 drops Citrus Fresh essential oil or any other essential oil you like
15 mL spray bottle (0.5 oz) -> or double up the recipe for a 1 oz spray bottle
Optionals: label. Here is a label design for you to download for Avery 5267. If you don’t have labels, you can print these on regular paper and cover the entire design with a wide piece of packing tape to make it waterproof.

Directions

  1. Make a batch of soap base by combining 1 cup filtered water + 1 tsp castile soap + 2 tsp rubbing alcohol. This will make about 15 spray bottles that are 15mL/0.5oz in volume. Cut the soap base recipe in half or fourths if you are making a smaller batch.
  2. Add 5 drops of essential oil to the 15mL spray bottle.
  3. Fill up the remainder of the spray bottle with soap base.
  4. Tighten the spray top, wipe the outside of the bottle.
  5. Optional but recommended – label the bottle.

I hope you enjoy these gifts! We had a fun time making them and maybe you can think of friends or family in your life who would enjoy receiving these this holiday season.
