Halloween Makeup the Savvy Way
Hi, I’m Colleen Jesperson – founder of The Gratitude Guild. I am so excited to bring you a week full of fun Halloween makeup looks! Keep watching in The Hassle-Free Family for pics of my favorite looks. Now let’s get to the good stuff.
What’s more frightening than a scary ghost or skeleton costume? The chemicals found in most Halloween makeup kits targeted to children! They often contain harmful chemicals including formaldehyde, Petroleum based ingredients, lead, nickel, chromium and cobalt. These toxic ingredients can make a child sick and the companies don’t even have to list them on the ingredients.
EEEEEEKKKKKK!
You may think that the makeup is ‘only’ going to be used just one night out of the year, but that one night still puts those chemicals into the bloodstream of you and your children…not to mention the dryness, breakouts and rashes that can happen (speaking from experience from both my husband and me)!
Here is a list of ingredients to avoid when picking out Halloween Makeup:
- Bismuth
- Carmine
- Coal tar
- Cobalt
- Chromium
- Dimethicone
- Formaldehyde
- Hydroquinone
- Lake dye
- Lead
- Mineral oil
- Nano particles
- Nickel
- Oxybenzone
- Parabens
- Petroleum based ingredients
- Phthalates
- Polypropylene
- Silicone
- Sulfates
- Synthetic colorants
- Synthetic fragrances
- Talc

So what options do I have for toxin-free Halloween makeup?
- Fruits and Vegetables and even Sidewalk Chalk can be used as hair dyes!
- You can make DIY Facepaint.
- You can buy non-toxic makeup and use it year round! I trust the Young Living Makeup called Savvy Minerals.
You don’t have to stress over whether or not Savvy Minerals is trying to hide anything from you. The ingredients listed above are NEVER found in Savvy Minerals. The ingredients you will find in Savvy Minerals makeup are toxin-free and nourishing, such as:
