Easy Peasy French Toast

Have you ever felt like your french toast was missing something? I felt like that for years until I discovered the magic ingredient – NUTMEG. If you aren’t one to keep whole nutmegs on hand, this Vitality recipe is for you. Give it a shot! It hits the spot with the perfect amount of nuttiness (is that a word?!) from the nutmeg and warmth from the cinnamon.

*This recipe is dairy-free and gluten-free

Egg Dip Ingredients (for 2-3 slices of bread)
1 large egg
1 Tbsp milk or choice (we used oat milk for class)
1/2 tsp sugar or maple syrup
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 shaves of a whole nutmeg or “Toothpick method” of nutmeg vitality EO
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon or “Toothpick method” of cinnamon bark vitality EO

Other Ingredients
Bread of choice (traditional sliced, gluten-free, brioche, fruit bread)
Coconut oil or avocado oil for cooking

Directions

  1. Mix egg dip ingredients in a shallow bowl
  2. Pre-heat skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat.
  3. Add a dab of coconut oil or avocado oil to the skillet to prevent sticking.
  4. Dip a piece of bread on both sides and transfer to hot skillet.Gluten-free or other dense breads should be soaked longer in the egg dip to pull the egg into the air pockets.
  5. Cook on each side for 1-2 minute.
  6. Serve hot, optional: dust with powdered sugar, top with your favorite topping like maple syrup, jam or fruit preserves, fruit compote.
