How do you feel about freezer cooking or prepping freezer meals? Does it seem like a lot of work or wasted effort? I think this post might change your mind! Here are 5 reasons cooking from the freezer is a good idea.

fresh ingredients create healthful freezer meals

5. Saves time

It might feel like it’s not a time saver because you block part of your day to prepare a batch of meals but it does save you time in the end. Think about the efficiency gained by gathering ingredients one time, washing and chopping vegetables once, cut down on washing cutting boards and knives for the single prep instead of every time you cook a meal, locate recipes one time instead of constantly searching and keeping them in your mind.

So yes, the up front time investment is more but you save on daily prep. How great does it sound to pull a meal from the freezer, dump it in the crockpot, and leave it for the day?

4. Saves Money

No more wasting herbs and veggies that go bad in the drawer just waiting to be used. Stick to a specific shopping list for your freezer meal prep and you’ll save time and money at the grocery store in the long run.

3. Makes it easy to eat whole foods

If you have a meal ready to eat in the crock pot, you’re less likely to fall into the trap of buying a meal of processed food when you get hungry in the evening.

Filling your freezer bag with healthful whole foods gives you 100% control over the nutrients in your meals. It’s a good idea to plan those out in advance so you don’t give in to cravings or wavering resolve to eat healthier meals.

2. You don’t have to be a good cook to make this work

It really takes practically no skill in the kitchen to pull off a successful freezer meal preparation. Even if you are not skilled in chopping vegetables, the grocery store makes it easy for you. They sell everything you need like diced carrots, onions, celery, and bell peppers, minced garlic, and any form of protein you want.

Start with a great recipe (don’t worry, I’ll hook you up with some favorites this week!) and you’re good to go!

1.”What’s for dinner” will be a question of the past

When I don’t have meals prepped in the freezer, my husband and I constantly ask this question. It feels like a ton of pressure to come up with a great idea each night. Creativity goes out the window when you’re tired by 4pm and you are starting down dinnertime, bath time, and bedtime.

The answer is NO, you don’t want to have chicken nuggets and mac n’ cheese for the 3rd night in a row but what else requires zero thought and a minimal amount of work?

When you have freezer meals prepped, you can easily pull one out of the freezer and toss it in the crock pot 4-6 hours ahead of time or an InstantPot when you need to eat in 30 minutes. It’s even faster than leaving the house to pick up takeout or order it online to be delivered.

If you really want to take your kitchen gadgets to the next level, I highly recommend this combination pressure cooker and air fryer, the Ninja Foodie.

Let’s give freezer meals a try! Throughout the week, I am going to hook you up with links to my favorite freezer meal resources. I won’t be creating my own recipes and shopping lists because the work has already been done.

Before we get started, I’m going to suggest you grab a tool that will make it infinitely faster to prep your meals. These baggie stands make it a cinch to create a freezer bag assembly line; a true time saver when it comes to filling bags quickly.
